A 35L hiking pack that keeps air moving across your back

The macpac Volta 35 is a 35L backpack built for everything from day hikes to overnight hut trips.

Its defining feature is the AIRFLEX trampoline harness, which creates a gap between your back and the pack body. It gives the back panel, where heat and moisture collect over long hours under load, a space for air to move, with the aim of reducing sweat build-up on warm hikes.

35L suits trips where you want a little margin over a day-hike load, right through to hut nights where you add insulation and a change of clothes. It is an easy choice when you do not need the capacity of the larger Volta 52 and would rather keep your load compact.

AIRFLEX trampoline harness creates airflow at the back

The back panel uses an AIRFLEX trampoline harness. Rather than sitting flush against your back, it holds the pack body away and keeps a channel of air between the two.

On sustained climbs, your back is where sweat collects most. By not covering it entirely, the design encourages airflow while still carrying the load in a stable position.

It is worth a look if you hike from spring through autumn, or spend long hours walking in warm conditions, and want back-panel ventilation.

35L that works from day hikes to hut nights

The main compartment is a simple single-chamber design with a roll-top opening. You can roll the closure down to match how much you are carrying, so it adapts as your load changes.

A closure strap over the top keeps the load settled, and the top lid can be removed when you want, letting you change the configuration to suit the trip and the load.

From day-hike kit such as rain gear, water and food, through to a hut night with spare clothes and insulation. Rather than carrying an oversized pack, this is a capacity for trips where you want the right gear organised into 35L.

Storage you can reach while walking

Stretch mesh pockets sit on the front and both sides, so gear you reach for on the move, such as layers and bottles, comes out without opening the main compartment.

The hipbelt carries a pocket on each side for food and small items you want to reach without stopping.

Bungee attachment loops, stowable pole and ice-axe attachments and hydration compatibility round out the features for carrying what hiking and mountain days require.

Nylon chosen for a balance of weight and durability

The main fabric is 100-denier nylon, chosen to balance low weight against durability. 81% of it is recycled nylon, finished with a UTS coating.

Reinforcement panels in higher-load areas use a heavier 210-denier recycled nylon with a PU coating, and that fabric is bluesign® approved.

The result keeps weight to around 1,100g (W2) while covering the carry, storage and durability a hiking pack needs.

The gear you need to walk, kept simple

The Volta 35 is not a pack that chased weight savings alone. AIRFLEX back ventilation, 35L of capacity, pockets you can reach from outside, and support for poles and hydration are gathered into one pack for long days on foot.

It is a pack for the step past a day hike, or for hut nights where you still want to keep the load compact, as you extend the distance and range of your trips.
