Merrell's MTL flagship, built to hold race pace
The MTL SpeedARC Peak is a unisex (men's last) trail running shoe designed for propulsion and a stable ride at race pace. It combines a propulsion-focused SpeedARC™ midsole system, a light and strong Matryx®×Kevlar® upper, and a Vibram® MegaGrip Elite outsole, built to hold your pace on technical terrain. At roughly 305g per shoe, with a 30/24mm stack and a 6mm drop plus a 4mm lug, it balances the rebound and ground feel racing and fast hiking demand.
The core of the ride: the SpeedARC™ midsole
- A two-layer construction of PEBA-based FloatPro™ racing foam and a highly durable FloatPro™ foam
- A lightweight, fork-shaped Carbon Fiber FlexPlate™ sandwiched in for high-rebound propulsion and stiffness
- A 30mm/24mm stack with a 6mm drop that smooths the transition from climbs to descents
Pairing the foam's cushioning and rebound with the carbon plate's stiffness cuts energy loss from toe-off to landing, helping you hold a race-pace ride.
A Matryx®×Kevlar® upper built for light weight, strength, and breathability
- A Matryx®×Kevlar® weave that's light, abrasion-resistant, and breathable
- A padded collar that holds the ankle gently
- A highly breathable mesh lining
- A removable EVA foam footbed
- Laces made from 100% recycled polyester
The thin yet strong upper keeps the shoe's overall weight down, while padding and lining add comfort where it's needed.
Vibram® MegaGrip Elite × Traction Lug
- A Vibram® MegaGrip Elite compound that grips well on both wet and dry surfaces
- Vibram® Traction Lug edges that boost traction on both climbs and descents
- A 4mm lug depth, sized to balance propulsion with ground contact
Development background and its place in 1TRL
Merrell Test Lab (MTL) spent five years working with top athletes through 154 rounds of prototype testing to complete this shoe. 1TRL is Merrell's premium collection launched in Europe in 2020, pairing archive-inspired silhouettes with new designs in limited quantities. This model is the collection's core race-oriented shoe.
Sizing and fit
It's a unisex release, but the sizing standard is a men's last. Please choose your size based on the JPN (cm) sizing shown in our product options.

- Sweat and friction may cause some color transfer. Take care with light-colored socks (dark socks recommended).
