I used this at the Shinetsu Igokoku 100 mile. The racy look had put me off before, but once I actually used it, it turned out to be a genuinely easy vest to use.
I'd thought Fume 6's big strength was how little it bounces, but what I appreciated most over 100 miles was how I could reach almost everything I needed without taking it off.
The front has two storage pockets in addition to the bottle pockets — three total on one side alone.
At Shinetsu Igokoku I didn't have crew support, so I had to carry all the food I needed between drop bags myself. I was taking in roughly 300–400 kcal per hour, which adds up, but I was able to fit most of my food in the front.
What worked especially well was that the lower rear pockets are split left and right.
I kept my headlamp on the left. I was a little worried at first that it might fall out, but it never did — it stayed in the same spot the whole race.
On the right I kept my rain jacket, which I could also pull out without taking the vest off. When a wind shell is needed depending on the weather, it looks like I could keep that on the left together with the headlamp too.
As a result, I only took the vest off twice during the whole 100 miles — once to change clothes, and once to dig out a cup I'd packed deep inside thinking I wouldn't need it.
The fit was easy to adjust, and I barely noticed any bounce.
On top of not bouncing, I could reach almost everything I needed without taking it off. With fewer extra motions, I was able to stay really focused on the race.
