TRAVERSE 2: Built to Cover Long Distances on Foot
The Topo Athletic TRAVERSE 2 is a low-cut shoe for hikers, made for long-distance thru-hiking across terrain that mixes pavement with technical ground.
It carries over the direction of the original TRAVERSE, built around long hours on foot under a loaded pack. Stack height is 30mm at the heel and 25mm at the forefoot, with a 5mm drop.
Rather than a trail running shoe, it is conceived as a shoe for covering long distances on hikes, in the mountains and on thru-hikes.
A Midsole for Long Distances
The midsole uses Topo Athletic's own foam.
Topo cites higher resilience than conventional EVA, and the ability to hold that resilience through the life of the shoe.
Cushioning is medium, support is neutral, flexibility is mid. Stack height is 30mm at the heel and 25mm at the forefoot, with a 5mm drop.
Improved Upper Durability on the TRAVERSE 2
The TRAVERSE 2 keeps the concept of the original while revisiting the durability of the upper.
A more abrasion-resistant material is used, an update aimed at contact with rock and branches and at repeated use over a long period.
The collar lining has also been made more durable, strengthening an area that wears with long use.
The FKT Insole for Wet Conditions
The shoe uses the FKT Insole.
Closed-cell bead foam limits water ingress and lets the shoe drain quickly even in wet conditions.
It is built for days when you keep moving after the shoes are already wet, in rain or along stream-side routes.
A Roomy Toe Box That Lets the Foot Spread
The forefoot uses Topo Athletic's signature Roomy Toe Box.
Shaped around the structure of the foot, it leaves room for the toes to spread naturally rather than squeezing them.
On hikes and thru-hikes spent walking for hours, forefoot space is one of the things worth checking when choosing a shoe.
Vibram® Megagrip Outsole
The outsole is Vibram® Megagrip.
It is a rubber aimed at traction and slip resistance on wet ground as well as dry, which matters on a shoe like the TRAVERSE 2 that spends long hours on trails where the surface keeps changing.
Pavement and forest road, then the trail itself, then rock and wet ground. It is an outsole for long hikes where the surface changes many times in a single day.
