STATIC ADRIFT DYNEEMA MITTEN

An ultralight mitten built around light weight and venting, blocking wind only where needed

The ADRIFT DYNEEMA MITTEN uses ultralight Octa®CPCP®, with its good balance of breathability and warmth, for the body, and adds Dyneema® Composite Fabric (25.4 g/m²) over just the areas that need it to provide wind resistance. It limits cold at the hands while you move without trapping excessive moisture. The design lets you bring your fingers out temporarily, so fine handling and tasks are easier without removing the mittens, and there is a carabiner loop that is handy for carrying them. A pair weighs only 23 g in size M/L. As part of an active layering system for hiking and the mountains, it is easy to keep in a pocket as standard.

The light warmth and smooth heat release that Octa®CPCP® brings

Octa®CPCP®, the body fabric, is a mesh fleece structure in which TEIJIN's brushed hollow polyester fibres with a shaped cross-section are bonded to a mesh face fabric. Dead air is held in the space created by the hollow cores and the eight projections on the fibres, so heat is retained efficiently even in a thin fabric. The mesh structure also lets surplus heat and moisture escape, limiting overheating while you move. The material itself is light, and that light weight is easy to feel compared with conventional polyester fibres of the same diameter. It wicks and dries quickly too, a design that helps reduce discomfort when you are perspiring.

In terms of environmental consideration, about 53% of the woolly yarn among the two polyesters that make up Octa®CPCP® is recycled polyester (ECOPET®). Compared with the same material made from virgin polyester, CO2 emissions during fabric production are reduced by about 23% (calculated by Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., covering raw material through to fabric shipment). Dyeing uses biomass (plant-derived) inputs, and the textile waste produced during fabric manufacture is recycled. Recycled yarn is used for the labels as well.

Partial DCF cuts the wind, and a practical design lets your fingers out

Dyneema® Composite Fabric, layered only where it is needed, effectively blocks headwind and cold wind on a summit. It keeps the overall bulk of the mitten down while helping prevent a drop in perceived temperature. The fingertips are built so that you can bring them out temporarily only when required, letting you handle a map, tap a phone or work a zip without taking the mittens off. Thanks to the carabiner loop, you can clip them quickly to a harness or a loop on your pack when you take them off at a break or to adjust your temperature.

Choosing a size

Choose using hand circumference (the measurement around the hand, taken at the position that divides the base of the thumb into two thirds and one third) as your guide. S/M = 21–23 cm, M/L = 24–26 cm. Measurements are taken flat. There may be slight differences between the stated size and the actual product.

Care and handling

• Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
• Hand wash, or use a laundry net on a delicate or hand-wash cycle.
• Do not tumble dry or dry clean.
