In addition to the inherent high functionality of wool (heat retention, breathability, heat resistance, antibacterial properties, UV protection), we use "REDA ACTIVE", a high-performance material that makes full use of REDA's more than 150 years of experience, knowledge, and technology.
Material
This product is made from 100% New Zealand-sourced merino wool jersey. Merino wool is known for its excellent heat retention, breathability, moisture control, anti-odor properties (antibacterial properties), heat resistance, and UV protection. REDA, the company that produces the merino wool jersey used by RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR, is a long-established Italian wool fabric manufacturer with over 150 years of history.
Product Features
1. Low-fuzz, soft texture Merino wool is classified into various grades based on the fineness of the fibers in the yarn that makes up the fabric, and this fineness is measured in μm (micrometers). The Merino Basic Tee uses an extremely fine 17.5μm (micrometer) yarn called "Super 120's," resulting in a soft texture with very little of the typical "itchiness" that is characteristic of wool.
2. Made with New Zealand Merino. Using New Zealand Merino wool is proof that the wool is "non-mulesing wool." "Mulesing" refers to the removal of skin and flesh from the rump of lambs to prevent maggot infestation. Merino sheep, bred for maximum wool yield, have a large skin surface and deep wrinkles, which allow feces and urine to accumulate in the creases around the rump and genitals, making it an ideal breeding ground for maggots. In the worst cases, this can lead to death as maggots eat away at the skin and flesh. Mulesing is a preventative measure, but it is often performed without anesthesia and scars are often left untreated. New Zealand banned this cruel practice in October 2018. Using New Zealand Merino also ensures the use of animal-friendly wool.
3.100% merino wool yet washable.
The fabric has undergone several shrink-proofing processes to minimize shrinkage after washing. However, as it is a natural fiber, some shrinkage and warping will inevitably occur. Please refer to the care instructions below to ensure that your product lasts for as long as possible.
- When washing, use detergent for wool.
- Turn the product inside out, place it in a laundry net and wash it alone.
- Water temperature should be limited to 40°C, and washing with hot water should be avoided.
- Avoid strong water currents when washing, and wash by hand or, if using a washing machine, use the "dry cycle" or "weak cycle."
- Never tumble dry.
After dehydration, we recommend shaping the product and drying it in the shade.
-If you will not be wearing the product for a long period of time, make sure to thoroughly clean it and store it with an insect repellent.
Design
As the product name "Basic" suggests, the simple box-shaped design makes it suitable for both mountain and city wear. The neckline is finished with a durable self-fabric binder to prevent the collar from stretching. Another unique feature is that the shoulder seams, sleeve attachment seams, and side seams are all flat-seamed. As the name suggests, "flat-seaming" produces a very flat seam, minimizing stress on the skin. This manufacturing method is often used for sportswear and babywear because it produces durable seams. The logo is printed on the left cuff, and a brand name tag is sewn to the hem. RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR merino wool products use a white name tag.

Staff Wear Review
Before I know it, I'm wearing it, and I've been wearing it all this time. I was wearing it when I rolled up my jacket just now. There are various explanations above, so I won't go into detail. Anyway, I can wear it all the time. Of course, I feel the benefits mentioned above. I don't even feel anything special about wearing it. It's become so commonplace, but maybe that's just how it is.
I know Mr. Kurosawa might get angry at me, but I always dry them in the dryer. I haven't noticed any significant shrinkage or changes, but please do so at your own risk.
