An all-mountain trail running shoe built for 100+ milers

The M1 (Men's) is an all-mountain trail running shoe that Mount to Coast spent 18 months developing. It's built for the ultra-distance range beyond 100 miles (roughly 160km). It's designed to hold cushioning, propulsion, grip and fit steady through the long climbs, descents, changing terrain and leg fatigue that come with races at that length.

JETCELL™ midsole: rebound with consistent support

The midsole uses our proprietary JETCELL™ material. It applies supercritical foaming technology to automotive-grade, highly durable materials, forming a fine, uniform cell structure. This delivers the brand's highest-ever energy return, making it easier to get rebound from landing to toe-off even as your legs tire late in a race.

It also carries a published figure of twice the structural strength compared with standard PEBA foam. This refers to a structural strength comparison of the foam itself, not a claim that the shoe's usable lifespan is doubled. Under the repeated loading of long distances, it's designed to resist excessive compression and keep ground feel more consistent.

TUNEDFIT™ dual lacing: independent adjustment for forefoot and midfoot

The laces use the TUNEDFIT™ dual system, letting you adjust the fit of the forefoot and midfoot independently. That makes it easier to fine-tune as the course or your legs change — looser at the start, firmer through the midfoot with the forefoot eased off as your feet swell in the heat, or a touch tighter up front through sustained descents.

A reinforced toe box up front helps protect your toes from rocks and roots even when fatigue dulls your foot placement late in a race.

TPEE-blend upper: durability, stability, quick-dry and breathability

The upper is made from TPEE (polyester-based thermoplastic elastomer) blended yarns. The fiber-level elasticity and recovery help the upper hold the foot securely while resisting stretch-out. It's built with abrasion resistance in mind for mountain terrain where you're often brushing against rock and branches, and it dries quickly after stream crossings or rain. Breathability and quick-dry performance help keep moisture from building up over long hours on the move.

Three Vibram® outsole technologies for any terrain

  • Megagrip (full coverage): delivers strong grip across wet rock, dry sand and boardwalks alike — support for that one step on a re-climb or a wet traverse.
  • Litebase: a thinner sole base that cuts roughly 30% of the weight while maintaining performance, helping you hold your pace late in a race.
  • Traction Lug: micro-features on the lug surface increase ground contact for up to 25% more grip, biting into rock surfaces and thin soil for an edge in both braking and acceleration.

Geometry and weight

Stack height is 38mm at the heel and 34mm at the forefoot, for a 4mm drop. The thick cushioning absorbs impact while the modest drop helps keep your posture consistent over long hours. Weight is 280g, a published figure for US Men's 9, and will vary by size. It aims for a range that balances shock absorption and propulsion against the strain of repeatedly lifting your legs.

Recommended use

Built for ultra-distance trail races and long trails of 100 miles and up, including courses with technical, rocky sections — this shoe answers pace changes and shifting terrain with all-around capability. It also suits runners who want to fine-tune fit over long hours on the move and want rebound to hold up through the closing miles.

Race results (for reference)

  • Triple Crown of 200s (2025): Manu Vilaseca broke the women's record by over 29 hours wearing early M1 prototypes.
  • Western States 100 (June 2026): Canyon Woodward finished in 14:45, 8th place.
  • Tor des Géants (September 2026, 336.1km, 24,000m+ of elevation gain): Vilaseca placed 3rd in 82:31.

These results reflect the athletes' own race performances and are not a guarantee of product performance.
