A layer to throw on over your shell, built for stops
The HPPE Over Hoody is a synthetic-insulated layer built to be thrown on quickly over a hardshell during a rest or stop in the snow. Taking a shell off right after stopping to change into a midlayer chills you fast, so this piece is designed to stay on top of the shell instead, holding in warmth as soon as you stop moving. The whole cut runs one size roomier to layer over a shell, and the cuffs open wide with a zipper so you can put it on and off smoothly even with gloves on.
Where the material and construction matter
The shoulders, front body, and back waist use a ripstop fabric blended with wind- and durability-focused HPPE (High Performance Polyethylene). The insulation combines PrimaLoft ThermoPlume — a down-like, high-loft synthetic fill — with highly insulating aerogel. The face fabric is an HPPE (High Performance Polyethylene) ripstop for added durability. The lining is 10-denier Cordura in a high-visibility orange for emergencies, and since it's sometimes worn over a wet shell, both the face and lining carry a water-repellent finish.
Details that support temperature control while stopped
The front is easy to operate with a lot of freedom for adjustment. The wide-opening cuffs use a unique "half-lock zipper" construction, for quick on/off with gloves and a secure fit regardless of glove size.
