30L at around 750g, for moving light

The macpac Harper 30 is a 30L lightweight backpack made for day hikes through to pared-back backpacking.

In the W2 size we stock, it weighs around 750g. A frameless build is paired with the HeliumAir harness for back ventilation, panel loading that opens wide from the front, and external pockets you can reach on the move.

It keeps structure to a minimum in favour of low weight, while retaining the storage and fit features walking in the mountains asks for. An easy pack to reach for when you want to keep your load compact and move quickly.

A frameless build that makes the most of low weight

The Harper 30 is frameless, with no internal frame.

That keeps the weight of the pack itself down and lets it follow your movement. The design suits day hikes where you are selective about what you carry, and trips where your kit is already light and compact.

Because it carries differently from a large pack that supports load through a frame, it is better suited to organising the gear 30L calls for than to stuffing in heavy loads.

HeliumAir, designed around back ventilation

The back panel uses HeliumAir, macpac's lightweight hiking harness.

The foam back panel against your back is built to keep air moving, so the pack considers ventilation and fit over long hours, not just low weight.

It is a back system aimed at sweaty climbs and warmer seasons, where you spend a long time walking under a pack.

Panel loading that opens wide from the front

The main compartment is a simple single chamber with a U-shaped zip opening, so the front of the pack opens up for access inside.

Compared with top-loading designs where gear stacks on top of itself, it is easier to reach clothing and equipment buried at the bottom, and easier to see what you have when sorting your kit at a hut or on a break.

A top pocket with a key clip keeps small items separate from the main compartment.

External storage you can use while walking

Stretch stash pockets sit on the front and both sides.

Rain shells, wind layers, bottles and other gear you take in and out on the move can live outside the main compartment.

The hipbelt has a pocket on each side, one of them zipped, for food and small items you want without taking the pack off.

Ready for mountain gear

Side compression straps, stowable pole and ice-axe attachments, and webbing loops for a front bungee attachment are all included.

It is hydration compatible, so the gear hiking and backpacking require can be organised within the 30L capacity.

Note that the front bungee cord itself is not included.

30L, from day hikes and beyond

30L is useful not only when you want room to spare for a day-hike load, but also for trips where your kit is already compact.

At around 750g, the Harper 30 is an option for hiking as light as possible, or for trips where you are selective about gear in order to cover more distance.

The W2 we stock is macpac's women's harness sizing. Pack fit varies with body shape, so check the back length and hipbelt fit alongside capacity when choosing.
