Switch fast, keep it on you. PAAGO WORKS' 4-way utility bag, the SWITCH L

The SWITCH L is a 2-liter utility bag that keeps what you need during activity close at hand. It switches between four carry styles: chest bag, shoulder bag, waist bag, and a pack side pocket. Because you can quickly move it to whichever position suits the moment, it's designed not to break your pace on a hike or climb. Capacity is about 2 liters and weight is 145g. It's a size smaller than the SWITCH XL, suited to day trips and a more minimal kit.

Four carry styles in one bag

Chest bag (your go-to spot during activity)

Worn on the chest, small items you reach for often are easy to access with one hand, and it distributes weight toward your pack. The brand's ZENN, ALK, and BUDDY packs come with O-rings, so it clips on easily to them.

Shoulder bag (for moving around on your own)

Using the included strap, it also works as a standalone shoulder bag. It's an easy setup for moments when you want to carry only your valuables, like at a campsite, a mountain hut, or a quick errand along the way. It also makes a handy companion for stretches where you're frequently reaching in and out.

Waist bag (stable, close to your core)

Adjust the length of the shoulder strap and it also works as a waist bag. Worn close to your core, it's easier to keep gear from swinging around on uneven footing. Its weight stays centered even through long strides on climbs and descents.

Side pocket (built into your pack)

Thread your pack's waist belt through the rear slit and it functions as a side pocket. It becomes part of your pack's handling, giving you quick access right from your hip. It comes in handy when you want to take your main pack off less often.

Built around the idea of quick switching, the concept of a utility bag that keeps what you need on you during a climb is realized in practical details. Switching carry style and mounting position on the spot without breaking your stride is what SWITCH L is about.

A layout where what you need lands "where it belongs"

The main room fits a 500ml PET bottle lying on its side, sized to also hold food and a small activity layer alongside it. Inside are two organizer pockets, one large and one small, for sorting small items like a battery, headlamp, or everyday medication.

The top pocket has gusseted depth, so even a bulky long wallet fits easily, and an internal key fob keeps your keys in place. The back pocket, against your body, is handy for temporarily holding a smartphone, a ticket, or a map, letting you pull it out and put it back smoothly while walking.

A sample loadout and how to sort it

Put frequently reached-for items toward the top, which is easy to access when worn on the chest. For example, keeping a smartphone, compact camera, and food toward the front of the main room, and small batteries or cables in the internal small pocket, shortens how far you reach. Thicker valuables like a long wallet or passport stay fixed in the gusseted top pocket. Hang your keys on the key fob and you won't lose track of them even when loading and unloading your pack. Giving each item a "set spot" by purpose makes it easier not to fumble while reaching in and out on the move.

An aluminum hook that mounts almost anywhere

Development started by rethinking the conventional attachment belt. The goal was a mechanism that wasn't picky about mounting position and could be put on and taken off quickly and intuitively. Working with a small Korean parts maker made up of a designer and an engineer, the team completed a system built around an aluminum hook.

This aluminum hook features a large opening that's easy to use even with gloves on, and a slim profile that's easy to clip onto various loops and webbing. Rather than relying on a dedicated attachment, it mounts flexibly to various positions on a pack. It's the core part that makes switching carry style fast and simple.

A zipper structure that doesn't care which way it's oriented

The body uses a zipper closure. Its opening and outer shape are optimized to work whether oriented vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, and it's sized around gear actually carried in the field. Its simple form, which stays out of the way during activity, keeps the line of access intact no matter how you're carrying it.

Key points on material and spec

PC Light Gray and PC Black use a supple, easy-to-handle PC-coated nylon, balancing light weight with easy handling. These colors use a water-resistant zipper and so are not fitted with a flap, which keeps the zipper action smooth and cuts a step out of opening and closing.

Tips for use

When using it as a chest bag, adjusting the shoulder strap a little shorter so the top of the bag sits around your breastbone cuts down on bounce. When wearing it over the shoulder, routing the strap across your body to increase contact helps stabilize it if you want to reduce sway while walking; when mounting it this way, the key is to check the left-right balance before settling on a position. In either case, keeping frequently used items toward the front shortens your reach.

The design philosophy behind it

The idea PAAGO WORKS has valued — that what you need during activity should be where it belongs — was honed through products like PATHFINDER and SWING. The SWITCH series takes that philosophy further, simplifying the attachment and expanding mounting freedom so the user can switch position on the spot in the field without hesitation. The SWITCH L packs that mobility into a lightweight package, sized down to the model that sees the most use on everyday mountain trips.

A sense of the size

Outer dimensions are about 140 x 280 x 100mm. It's sized to hold a 500ml PET bottle lying on its side with room left over for food and small items. As a compact-class bag, it's designed to balance well whether worn on the chest or around the waist.
