The Altamesa 500 V2 is the 2nd model of the Altamesa 500. Built around thick cushioning and rebound, it is a high-cushion trail running shoe that supports comfortable running on trail. Maximum cushioning underfoot leads to the floating ride the model is known for. It is intended for trail running from training through to racing.
Rebound and cushioning from DREAM foam
The midsole uses high-rebound, high-cushion DREAM foam. It has a stack height of 37.0 mm at the heel and 31.0 mm at the forefoot, with an offset of 6.0 mm. It secures enough thickness underfoot while making use of the rebound in the foam itself.
The outer perimeter of the sole is also flared, and the midsole is rockered. Beyond the volume that maximum cushioning brings, the shape of the whole sole is part of how the shoe rides. Cushioning thickness, rebound and sole shape are brought together into one bottom unit.
A thin upper for breathability and strength
The upper combines a thin breathable mesh with TPU. The mesh secures breathability while TPU covers the strength. Against a thick bottom unit, the upper is finished thin, holding both the strength trail running needs and the way air moves through.
SurfaceCTRL rubber for dry and wet surfaces
The outsole uses SurfaceCTRL rubber, developed by THE NORTH FACE. SurfaceCTRL is an outsole rubber compound made to keep strong grip without losing lightness. It is a sole material aimed at mountain terrain, where durability and grip both matter.
On the Altamesa 500 V2 it is used as an outsole that grips well on wet surfaces as well as dry ones.
4.0 mm lugs for varied trail surfaces
The lug depth is 4.0 mm. Rather than narrowing the shoe to one kind of surface, the setting is aimed at a range of trail surfaces.
About size conversion
US sizes convert to different centimetre figures than the men's model: US 7.5 is 24.0 cm. The same US 7.5 is 25.5 cm in men's.
Weight is roughly 240 g for a single 8 inch shoe. The shoe is a USA design.
