Lighter, Warmer, Less Clammy — the 2.0 Update to a Signature Half-Zip

STATIC's signature half-zip hoody, a design that has run since the brand's launch year, evolves into the ADRIFT HALF ZIP HOODY 2.0. The hood and collar are set even higher, forming a balaclava-style cut that fully covers the neck. The half-zip's easy temperature control stays intact, while the garment now stands up to the depths of winter.

STATIC's Choice: Running Octa CPCP as a Standalone Fleece

In the fast-growing active-insulation category, TEIJIN Octa® CPCP® is known as one of its insulating materials. It's light and highly insulating, but it's usually packed inside a nylon shell and used as a lining — which inevitably affects weight and how freely you can layer.

STATIC flipped that convention, taking this material — normally relegated to lining duty — and using it as a single layer on its own. Brands built around high, dry climates tend to pack it inside a shell, which adds weight; for how insulation gets carried and layered in Japan, that approach costs you flexibility. Running it as a single layer makes it easier to control venting, layering, and putting the piece on or off, while keeping it light and low-bulk to carry.

How the Fabric Works, and What You Feel

What Is Octa CPCP?

A mesh fleece that bonds an irregular-cross-section hollow polyester brushed fiber — with eight raised ridges — to a mesh face fabric. It balances light weight with warmth, and sheds heat well. Normally used as a lining, here it's run on its own to bring out that potential.

Light Weight and Packability

The special mesh structure makes it dramatically lighter than a typical 300g-class thin fleece. The hollow fiber — roughly half the weight of a solid polyester fiber of the same diameter — combined with its dead-air layer gives excellent warmth per gram, so it barely adds bulk inside a pack.

Moisture-Wicking and Heat Release

The combination of the mesh face and the brushed layer spreads and evaporates sweat efficiently, helping curb clamminess on the move. The micro-spaces formed by the eight ridges and the hollow core hold dead air, balancing heat release against warmth.

Sustainability: Recycled Content Down to the Manufacturing Process

  • The fabric blends two fiber types — polyester woolly yarn and hollow cross-section yarn. 53.6% of the woolly yarn is now ECOPET® recycled polyester, with the remaining 46.4% standard hollow cross-section yarn, bringing the fabric's overall recycled content to 53% (since autumn/winter 2023).
  • Compared with the virgin-polyester version of the same material, this cuts CO2 emissions during fabric production by 23% (calculated by Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., from raw polymer through to fabric shipment).
  • The fabric is produced at an OEKO-TEX®-certified domestic Japanese mill. Dyeing uses biomass (plant-derived) feedstock instead of petroleum, further cutting emissions.
  • Cutting scraps from production are not incinerated — they're recycled into new fabric.
  • Brand labels, size tags, and care labels are 100% recycled PET polyester.
  • No individual plastic packaging is used — products ship wrapped in tissue paper.

A Hoody Built to Protect You in Motion

  • A tall-collar balaclava hood: covers the neck fully and keeps wind out.
  • Snap-fastened mouth guard: closes only when you need it, and stays out of the way when you don't.
  • Half-zip: easy on and off, with fine venting control through how far you open it.
  • One chest pocket: a quick spot for food or thin gloves.
  • Thumbholes: keep the cuffs from riding up and help keep the backs of your hands warm.
  • Regular fit: layers easily as a midlayer without restricting movement.
  • 170g (size M): light enough to carry year-round.

How to Think About Layering It

This material is at its best balancing the heat and sweat of being on the move against the chill of a rest stop or a windy moment. In the depths of winter, wearing it over a base layer and under a wind shell is an easy combination to manage, adjusting the zip and hood as temperature and effort change. Even in warmer seasons, its light weight makes it easy to carry for cold mornings, evenings, or higher elevations.

Care

  • Do not use fabric softener or bleach.
  • Hand wash, or machine wash in a laundry net on a delicates/hand-wash cycle.
  • Do not tumble dry or dry clean.
  • The fabric is vulnerable to snagging on sharp objects, so take care when bushwhacking.
