A lightweight solo tarp that skips the separate bug net
The Deschutes Plus is a one-person shelter that adds a full No-See-Um mesh skirt to the classic Deschutes tarp. You get solid bug protection without carrying a separate net, for a weight gain of only about 3 ounces (roughly 85g). It keeps the tarp's light weight and quick setup while making it an easy choice for sleeping with peace of mind in buggy seasons or locations.
Hexagonal pyramid wind protection and an easy pitch in tight spots
The hexagonal pyramid shape pitches with a simple single trekking pole (49 inches). The walls shed wind evenly from all directions for strong 360-degree wind protection. Its small footprint makes it easy to pitch in tight spots between trees or on uneven ground where larger tents won't fit. The side entry and zippered door make getting in and out smooth.
An 18-inch bug skirt that still works at different pitch heights
An 18-inch (about 46cm) No-See-Um skirt runs around the base to keep bugs from slipping in under the edge. Because the skirt covers the gap even as you raise or lower the pitch height to suit conditions, bug protection holds up across different setups. On bug-free nights you can open the entry wide for extra airflow or to take in the stars, giving you that open, airy feel a tarp offers.
Thoughtful details for a more comfortable interior
Living space totals 44 square feet (about 4.1m²), with enough height to sit up without feeling cramped even during long stretches inside (peak height is roughly 48-49 inches, or about 122-124cm). A vent at the top promotes airflow and helps reduce condensation. Tension adjustment is easy, so it stays taut even while you're in your sleeping bag.
Materials balanced for light weight and durability
The canopy uses 20-denier silicone-coated nylon with a 3,000mm hydrostatic rating. The skirt mesh is ultralight 20D No-See-Um netting, and the door uses a #3 YKK zipper. The packed size is about 15 x 6 inches (about 38 x 15cm), so it stays compact in your pack. Total weight is 16 ounces (about 450g), excluding the pole and stakes.
What you'll need to pitch it
Pitching requires one 49-inch trekking pole. Pick up 6 stakes separately for staking it out. For trips where you want an enclosed inner room, it also pairs with the Serenity NetTent (sold separately).
