Material
The material used is "Dyneema®CT2K18".
This material is composed of a surface polyester film coating + a middle layer of 0°/90° UHMWPE (※1) fiber + a backside polyester film coating. It is a lightweight material with excellent durability and waterproofness (water pressure resistance 20,000mm).
(※1) UHMWPE is an abbreviation for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, which refers to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is a polyethylene that has an average molecular weight of 1 million or more and is classified as an engineering plastic that has excellent slip resistance, abrasion resistance, and high strength.
The thickness of the CT2K18 was good after all.
For many years, RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR's "Stuff Sack" has used Dyneema® Composite Fabric with a thickness of CT2K18 (32.6/㎡). However, last time, we used a slightly thinner Dyneema® Composite Fabric called CT2E08 (25.4g/㎡), which is available in a vibrant color lineup, but we decided that the thickness of CT2K18 (32.6/㎡) is best for the "Stuff Sack" and have returned to the original fabric.
The colors are printed in RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR's original colors (except for Nickel Grey).
With the cooperation of Takisada Nagoya Co., Ltd., the official Japanese distributor of Dyneema®, the color printing was done at the printing plant of Mitsubishi Oji Paper Sales Co., Ltd.
Introduction
A stuff sack is essential for hiking and packing outdoors. When I first started hiking, most of the stuff sacks were made of Silnylon.
Lightweight and waterproof, Silnylon seemed like an ideal choice at the time, but in practice, it tended to slide around inside my backpack and made it difficult to organize my belongings.
It was during this time that I discovered a material called Dyneema® Composite Fabric. I first made a stuff sack using this material in 2018. At the time, the material was not widely available on the market, so I decided to try making one myself first.
Dyneema® Composite Fabric is not only less slippery than Silnylon and much easier to pack, but also surprisingly durable. When I actually used it for hiking and camping, I was surprised at how durable and easy it was to use. I still remember how much more comfortable it was to pack.
I don't really like the feel of air pillows, so I often use a stuff sack as a pillow when I sleep, but the problem with the Silnylon is that it slips every time I turn over, making my head unstable. The stuff sack made of Dyneema® Composite Fabric is less likely to slip, and it keeps my head in a stable position while I sleep, so I can sleep comfortably. This stuff sack provides stability when packing and sleeping, making it one of the ideal outdoor gear for me.
Nowadays, stuff sacks using Dyneema® Composite Fabric are also available on the market. The RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR Stuff Sack is designed to be simple yet practical. Please try the Stuff Sack, which has been designed with attention to detail to make your packing experience more comfortable.
The inside of the mouth of the main body is fitted with a 1.5cm wide nylon tape approximately 55cm long (length cannot be adjusted).
You can take out the straps and use them as hand straps or shoulder straps depending on your situation.
You can use it as a regular stuff sack when hiking, and then use it as a mini shoulder bag when stopping at a hot spring on your way back.
The load capacity is estimated to be about 1.5 kg. If you put more than that in the bag, the stitching may be damaged.
Please note that although the fabric itself is waterproof, the seams of the product are not sealed, so it is not completely waterproof.
It is also useful for storing dirty sneakers after a hike.
The image above is of the HOKA ONE ONE SPEEDGOAT GTX, size 28cm, which can be stored with plenty of room.
*Only applies to low-cut sneakers.
"Stuff Sack + Waffle Towel"
We also recommend putting soft items such as clothes inside the Stuff Sack and wrapping the Waffle Towel on the outside as a pillow.
It will be delivered stored in the "RIDGE MOUNTAI GEAR aLOKSAK XXS".
Use it to carry cosmetics when you go to the hot spring, to store your emergency kit, or as a wallet. The RIDGE MOUNTAI GEAR aLOKSAK XXS is not sold separately.
You can use it as a regular stuff sack when hiking, and also use it as a mini shoulder bag when stopping at a hot spring on your way back.

Color printing in Japan
RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR's Stuff Sack is made of a material called Dyneema® Composite Fabric. If you wanted to print it in your own color, you had to rely on Ripstop By The Roll in the US.
We wondered if we could print this in Japan, and consulted with Takisada Nagoya, the official Japanese distributor of Dyneema®, who has always been very helpful to us. After much trial and error with Mitsubishi Oji Paper Sales Co., Ltd., who actually did the printing, we were able to make the print a reality.
This is probably the first case of roll-by-roll color printing of Dyneema® Composite Fabric in Japan. *As of the end of May 2024
We visited Mitsubishi Oji Paper Sales Co., Ltd. to see what this technology is like. As it contains many trade secrets, we were not allowed to film it, but we were given permission to film and interview them.
If you are familiar with Dyneema® Composite Fabric, you may be wondering how to get dye to adhere stably to such a smooth surface. I was too.
We actually saw the printing and received an explanation of the technology. The printing itself is very strict, and the speed is very slow, and the printing is done while applying moderate tension and making adjustments by hand, always keeping an eye on the fabric to prevent wrinkles.
Dyneema® Composite Fabric is sensitive to high temperatures, so temperature control is also very difficult. The detailed printing time is also a trade secret, but it takes several hours to print one roll of 36 meters.
※please note
For all colors except "Nickel Grey", this product is printed in an original color using a special technique. Therefore, due to the nature of the print, a small amount of dye may remain on the surface of the fabric. After printing, we wipe off the dye on the surface of the fabric, but in some cases it is difficult to remove it completely.
There is no risk of color transfer under normal use, but if the product is wet and subjected to strong friction, the dye remaining on the fabric may transfer to other items. Please handle with care.
