A piece that makes you feel like you can go anywhere.

When I was in elementary school, there was a time when I would wear my older brother's hand-me-down mountain parka almost every day.

I don't know where my brother, who was four years older than me, got it, but before I knew it, it had become mine and I always wore it like a uniform. It was black and made of a slightly shiny nylon material. Now that I think about it, it wasn't outdoor wear, but a parka made of some kind of non-functional fabric. But that didn't matter.

To me, it wasn't just a hoodie, it was "go anywhere clothing."

Just putting on the hoodie made me feel a little stronger. I felt like I could walk anywhere without worrying about the weather.

I think it's called a "mountain parka."

For some reason, my heart leaped when I heard the word "mountain."
With the name "Mountain," you can be sure it can go anywhere, in any weather.

I can still vividly recall the sensations I felt, both on paved roads and on the unfrequented animal trails in the mountains behind my house.

The excitement I once felt when wearing a mountain parka.
I felt the same feeling I had back then: "If I had this, I could go anywhere."

Design

The design was based on the Mle50 smock used by the French mountain troops in the 1950s and 1960s.

This smock was issued to soldiers as cold weather clothing. The main body is a simple pullover with little decoration, but its structure is full of rationality.
The first thing to note is the relaxed silhouette. Designed for layering, it can be worn in a variety of environments by adjusting the mid-layer and inner layer.
The lack of buttons or zippers on the front prevents wind from entering and provides superior warmth. While it is not as multi-functional as modern outdoor wear, its simple design makes it extremely easy to use. Its universal appeal means it can be worn in any situation, from active scenes to everyday life.

Based on this smock, we have updated it to incorporate modern materials and specifications.

Waist string

The waist is fitted with a string made from the same fabric as the main body.
It comes with a small cord stopper that allows you to easily adjust the fit, and any excess cord can be tied up in a bow for a neater fit.

Elastic cord at hem

There is a 2mm elastic cord at the hem, which can be adjusted at both sides as shown in the image above.

[Adjustable fit and improved ease of movement]

Smocks are characterized by their loose silhouette, but the fit can be freely adjusted using the waist string. Tightening the string will fit your body better and improve ease of movement. On the other hand, loosening the string will allow you to enjoy a more relaxed fit. Smocks are particularly appealing in active situations as they prevent your clothes from slipping while maintaining a comfortable fit.

[Improved wind and cold protection]

By tightening the waist string and elastic hem cords to the appropriate degree, it is possible to prevent warm air from escaping from inside the garment and cold air from entering through the hem. This allows you to adjust the fit according to the environment, such as on a windy ridge or in chilly mornings and evenings, making it more comfortable. This innovation also improves the effectiveness of layering, allowing you to maximize the garment's cold-weather performance.

[Silhouette arrangement and style freedom]

One of the charms of smocks is that the silhouette can be dramatically changed by adjusting the waistband and tightening the elastic at the hem. By tightening the waistband tightly, you can accentuate your waistline and create a sleek silhouette.
By tightening the elastic cord at the hem, the skirt changes to a balloon silhouette.

Even with the same smock, you can enjoy wearing it in a variety of ways depending on the situation and your mood.

Ventilation at the base of the sickle

One of the biggest features of smock-type jackets is that they are lightweight because they do not have a front zipper. Generally, full-zip and half-zip designs require zippers and their reinforcing parts, which inevitably increase the weight. However, smock-type jackets eliminate these parts and adopt a structure that is as simple as possible, ensuring their light weight.

However, the lack of a zipper in its structure limits breathability, making it prone to heat buildup. To address this issue, we've added ventilation holes to the bottom of the armholes to improve the comfort inherent to smocks. These vents allow air to flow naturally as you move your arms during exercise, efficiently expelling heat. Furthermore, because the smock has no zippers, buttons, or other opening and closing mechanisms, it maintains a simple design while improving ventilation without increasing weight.

Food

The hood can be worn by hooking it over your chin as shown in the image above, allowing you to adjust the fit. The hood opening has an elastic cord that can be tightened to adjust the fit to your liking.

In strong winds, you can tighten the hood to better fit your head and prevent cold air from entering. On the other hand, in mild weather or when breathability is a priority, you can loosen the elastic cord to create a moderate amount of room. This allows for fine adjustment according to changes in wind and temperature, improving comfort in outdoor situations.

Pockets and pocketable features

The bag is equipped with a single-welt pocket with a flap that prevents rain and dust from getting inside the pocket.

It has a packable design that allows you to store the main body in one of the pockets.
It folds up compactly and fits in your pocket, making it extremely portable. Just put it in your backpack and you can wear it whenever you need it.

Felt stitch

All seams are made with a flat-felled stitch. A flat-felled stitch is a method of folding the edge of the fabric inward and sewing it together, resulting in a finished product where the edge of the fabric is not visible, as shown in the image above. This sewing method has the advantage of not only looking beautiful, but also being stronger, as the seam is not exposed.

However, the folded hem stitch is very time-consuming. Because it involves folding the fabric, it requires high skill and careful sewing. However, we chose this method because we wanted to create a strong, long-lasting finish.

Using a serger to process seams is efficient, but because the thread is exposed, there is a risk of it becoming unraveled if it gets caught on a fingernail, etc. Therefore, by using a folded flat stitch, we can prevent this problem and improve durability.

Even over a shirt

The length is slightly longer, so even when worn over a RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR shirt, the hem won't peek out and the boundary between layers won't be visible. This not only gives a neat and tidy look, but also prevents the shirt hem from riding up while walking or getting caught on the waist belt of a backpack. As a result, the silhouette is kept flat from both the front and the side.

This length is also effective in situations where you move around a lot. Swinging your arms widely while climbing, bending forward, and working with poles. Even with these movements, your waist and back are not exposed, preventing wind from getting in and keeping you cool. Another key point is that when you sit down for a break, the hem of the shirt is less likely to come out and become wrinkled, so it stays put.

Pertex Equilibrium

HERITAGE / BACKGROUND
Equilibrium represents the way Pertex develops unique fabric solutions in close partnership with its customers.

In 1990, during a long drive south through France to Chamonix, Pertex's Steve Laycock and Rab Carrington, founder of the brand Rab, came up with the idea of ​​creating a comfortable "microclimate" within clothing. They theorized about the benefits of fabrics with different yarn structures, and thought that a relatively open weave on the inside and a tighter weave on the outside could create strong capillary action and effectively transport moisture away from the body.

On returning to the UK, Steve Laycock asked the weaving experts at Perseverance Mill to develop a shell fabric with a "double weave" of varying denier and density, and the result of this research was Pertex's patented Equilibrium fabric.

[Structure of EQUILIBRIUM]

Pertex Equilibrium uses a double weave construction: a tightly woven outer fabric provides protection from the outside environment, combined with a more open inner weave that allows the entire fabric to effectively transport moisture away from the body. Key properties include breathability, wind resistance and quick drying.
