What is Mora Knife?
Let's start by explaining what a Mora Knife is. In the Mora region of Sweden, it is difficult to grow crops due to its poor soil, and as a result of thinking about something that could be done with the abundant wood and iron, we worked on harnesses, agricultural equipment, and knives as industries. Among them, knives have a particularly good reputation, and the Mora region will establish its position as a knife town. In Japan, it's like Higonokami. It seems that there were several places that made knives in the Mora region, but now it refers to the knives made by a company called "Morakniv AB". After all, the company name is Mora Knife. And in Japan, an import agency called "MORAKNIV JAPAN" was established, and the name recognition in the country has increased dramatically. Today, it has established a solid position as an outdoor knife, so much so that it is said, "When in doubt, Mora."
Companion HD is the first knife
There are many types of Mora knives, and the characteristics and optimal usage of each one vary greatly. Recommended. With a simple design without habit, anyone can use it. The handle is made of non-slip rubber, so even those who are not used to handling knives can use it relatively perfectly.
With a blade thickness of 3.2mm, it is strong enough to be used as an outdoor knife.
The sharpness is also excellent, and since this is my personal item, it is not new, but even a new one can cut as well as this one. One of my favorite points about Mora Knives is that they are extremely sharp right out of the box.
carbon or stainless steel
There are two main types of knife steel: carbon steel and stainless steel. It's not that one is better than the other, but you need to choose the one that best suits your needs and skills. For example, carbon is sharp and easy to sharpen, so it's perfect for people like me who want to use their knives to the fullest. Most of my knives are carbon. On the other hand, stainless steel is inferior to carbon in terms of sharpness and maintainability, but since it does not rust easily in the first place, the need for maintenance is lower than that of carbon. Stainless steel is also recommended for people who often use it near water, such as the sea or rivers. Personally, I like carbon, but I hope you can choose it according to your own usage. There are two types of companion series, carbon and stainless steel, so please compare them.

bushcraft survival black
This is the second mora knife I bought and the one I use the most. They are active in various scenes such as jungle exploration in the hinterlands of Iriomote Island, uninhabited island survival, and bushcraft. A carbon knife with a black coating that is somewhat resistant to rust. The big difference from other series is that it comes with a metal match and a diamond sharpener.
The blade thickness is 3.2mm, the same as the Companion HD, and has sufficient strength. In addition, the back of the blade has sharp corners, so you can rub the attached metal match to shoot sparks.
It is like this. In other series, the back of the blade is not square, so it is not suitable for starting a fire with a metal match. The price has gone up quite a bit, but I still like this knife. Even so, it doesn't cost 10,000 yen, so the knife as a whole is a cheap category.
I have been using it for more than 6 years, but the sharpness is good as you can see. It's easy to maintain, so I think it's easy to reproduce sharpness like this with just a little practice.
Companion stainless
I'm a carbon fan, but I also have some stainless steel knives. Among them, the most frequently used stainless steel knife is "Companion stainless". Since it is hard to rust, it is mainly used for collecting ingredients on uninhabited islands.
The blade thickness is 2.4mm, which is a little thinner than Companion HD. There is no problem in normal use, though. Sharpening is a little more difficult, but it doesn't require as much maintenance as carbon and is inexpensive, so you can use it without worrying too much. However, even though it is made of stainless steel, it does rust, so after using it, rinse it with fresh water and dry it before storing.
Overall review
The Mora Knife is OK to start with.
