Introduction
I myself have started wearing merino wool T-shirts more often on long-distance hikes and in my daily life. I wear the RIDGE Merino Tee almost all year round. However, synthetic materials such as polyester also have their merits. The material itself is cheaper than merino wool, so the product price can be kept down, and daily care can be done without as much care as with merino wool. Polyester is also more durable and dries faster.
Of course, there are also disadvantages. As you use polyester T-shirts, they start to smell. Compared to natural fibers such as cotton and wool, synthetic fibers are harder to remove sebum stains, and polyester in particular is prone to absorbing them. In addition, synthetic fibers are prone to breeding bacteria that cause odors.
Therefore, for long-term hikes where you want to reduce the amount of luggage you carry, I definitely recommend merino wool T-shirts, but for situations where you can change clothes quickly, such as day hikes, quick-drying, durable polyester T-shirts are also an option.
If an odor does occur, try the following:
1. Wash the smelly items using powdered oxygen bleach.
2. Fill a basin or other container with hot water at about 40 to 50°C, mix the hot water and bleach in the specified amounts, then mix the hot water and oxygen bleach and soak your laundry in the mixture for 30 minutes to an hour.
3. Once soaking is finished, rinse and spin-dry using the washing machine.
4. After the dehydration is complete, hang it up immediately without leaving it. Leaving it after dehydration can also cause odors.
Material
This is a polyester jersey material made with thread that has a matte finish and feels like cotton. It has anti-pilling, UV protection, and quick-drying properties, and is also breathable and shape-retaining. It is also an environmentally friendly material made with recycled polyester.
Design
This polyester T-shirt has been released ever since the beginning of RIDGE MOUNTAIN GEAR.
This is also a very sentimental item.
When I first started the brand, I didn't have the money or the ability to make original patterns, so I released T-shirts with logos printed on so-called "generic bodies" like United Athle and GILDAN. I like those because they have an indie band goods or garage feel, but I released them every year thinking, "I want to make T-shirts with original bodies someday..."
Even after time has passed and we are finally able to make our own original patterns, the feelings we had back then have not changed, and we continue to release these every year under the nickname "Polity."
This is what I'm feeling about Poly Tee this year.
The design was inspired by sports T-shirts that might have been displayed in a bookstore (student co-op) on an American university campus in the 1980s.
I love Netflix's "Stranger Things" and have rewatched it several times, but the American pop culture of the 1980s that runs through the background of the show, especially the music, fashion, movies, etc., has a unique flamboyance and strength to it. I wanted to incorporate a little of that into this T-shirt.
I tried to choose colors that matched the atmosphere as much as possible for the color scheme. I think the slightly flashy colors seen in American sportswear from the 1980s give you a sense of the energy unique to that era.
As for the colors, we added a playful touch as mentioned above, but reconsidered the patterns.
One of the poly tees we produced and sold until recently was the ``Poly Basic Tee Short Sleeve,'' which used the same pattern as the ``Merino Basic Tee Short Sleeve.''
RIDGE's Merino Tee and Poly Tee have different situations and uses, so we have redesigned the pattern of the Poly Tee to take this into consideration.
The Merino Basic Tee Short Sleeve has a width and length that allows it to be worn alone or, in some cases, used as a base layer.
In contrast, the new "Poly Tee Short Sleeve" has been redesigned with the idea of wearing it alone in mind, with the width, length, and sleeve width and length redesigned. It is designed to have a looser impression than the "Merino Basic Tee Short Sleeve" and to be comfortable when worn alone.
The neck is made of milling fabric, and uses what is known as a "ribbed collar."
In the previous polyester T-shirts, we had a stretch-preventing material called an "octopus binder" from the back collar to the shoulders to prevent the neck from stretching, but this time we have done away with that.
"Stretch-resistant" can also be said to be something that is difficult to stretch or to expand. I personally felt a bit cramped when wearing it, so I decided not to use that feature this time. I think that it has become lighter and flatter as a result.
Another feature is that the shoulder seams, sleeve seams, and side seams are all flat seamed.
A "flat seam" is a method of sewing fabric together using a special sewing machine, as shown in the illustration above.
As the name suggests, the seams of the fabric are finished very flat, minimizing stress on the skin. This manufacturing method is often used for sportswear and babywear because it produces strong seams.
To prevent strain on the shoulder seams when carrying the backpack, the shoulder seams have been shifted towards the back of the body.
A brand name tag is sewn onto the hem.
The "RIDGE" logo is printed on the chest.

There is not much difference in the overall silhouette between the men's and women's sizes, but the women's sizes have a silhouette that is more suited to the female body type, such as the length and shoulder width.

Attention
If you take note of the following when caring for this product, you can use it for a long time.
- Use a neutral detergent when washing.
・Turn the product inside out, place it in a laundry net and wash it alone.
